Machine monitoring means monitoring the up-to-date situation of machines, equipment, and other resources owned by the Lab.

The system is supposed to be able to answer, for example, questions such as:

• Is the laser cutter operational?
• What's cool about the painting room?
• Is there anything particularly remarkable about using a CNC milling machine?

Lab's instant messaging channel (Matrix) has widgets in the user interface that show the same situation.

The bot on the public channel can also give corresponding lists. Enter the command !ghproj <domain> where domain is the subject area, for example tilat or koneet.

The lab's machine tracking is based on the misuse of the GitHub repo. You need credentials on GitHub to use it. You need them anyway to participate in almost all electronic activities of the Lab.

Note: you don't need to know how to use git version control

The operation is based on the use of labels attached to github tickets.

Each Lab machine or similar resource has its own label.

The labels are divided into the following (in colors):

• machines (red) - Physical or virtual machines and devices
• facilities (green) - Facilities and rooms

1. Make a new ticket here https://github.com/TampereHacklab/Inventaario/issues/new
2. Give the ticket a title
3. Add the necessary labels to the ticket, e.g. if it is related to a certain machine or is in a certain state
4. Give a description, preferably one that others can understand what it's about

1. Do the task described in the ticket or fix the problem
2. Write in the comment of the ticket that fixed
3. Close the ticket “Close”

If you can't find a label for a machine or farm, make one.

1. Create a new label
2. Mark it with a certain color from the preselection list, depending on whether it is a machine or a space. Without a color, the system does not know which category the label belongs to.
