====== Hacklab Second-hand Shop a.k.a Bonk ======

Bonkki is slang word which translates to //"An item that is thrown away as unwanted or non-functional, but somebody other sees value in it.//" Word originates from radio amateur jargon and from Alvar Gullichens art

Located in the Lab premises, there is Hacklab shop trolley where members can buy second hand stuff. Stuff is separated on the three trolley shelves: 1-5 euros, >5 euros, and >10 euros. Payment can be made to the cash box found in the Lab kitchen.

The funds will be used for the benefit of the community.

===== Good bonk =====

  * 0–10 year old computers and mobile devices. Haswell and newer Intel machines, and Zen1 and newer AMD machines are welcome. Loose components (power supplies, hard drives, motherboards, GPUs, coolers...), assuming they're functional and in a condition where they can be installed without compatibility issues (e.g. mobos and CPUs preferably in pairs).
  *  Industrial and laboratory equipment.
  *  Remote-controlled toys
  * Space, aviation, and military equipment. Everything made in Soviet Union.
  * Otherwise cool looking devices, e.g. devices from 70s and older.
  * Retro computing: Commodore, Atari, Nintendo etc. Broken devices are also welcome for repair parts.
  * Non-PC computers: Unix computers, text and X terminals.
  * Generally everything containing interesting mechanical parts, or parts that can be reused
  * Tools, all kinds of tools are excellent bonk. It is recommended to ask if the hackerspace is missing a mentioned item.

===== Bad bonk =====

  * Too old or broken PCs (they are everywhere), "lonely" PC parts such as an old mobo with no CPU.
  * Large equipment like copy machines and PA-speakers
  * CRT monitors and TV-sets (exclusion: Videomonitors, e.g. studio/broadcast grade or C64/Amiga/Atari monitors).
  * Easily available common junk: Set top boxes, ADSL and cable modems, IPTV boxes etc.
  * Dangerous or harmful waste: Broken batteries and chemicals
  * Lo tech devices: electric ketles, vacuum cleaners, electric mixers, microwaves...
Bring bad bonk only if you have arranged for someone else to retrieve it **out of the hackerspace soon**.

===== Crowdfunding =====

Implementing crowdfunding campaigns is possible within the framework of legislation and regulatory guidelines. If you are interested in organizing a crowdfunding campaign, present your idea at the monthly community meeting to avoid overlapping campaigns. Careful preparation is recommended. It is easier to gain support and attract funders for a project if at least the following questions can be answered: the project’s goal, what, why, budget, and the method of fundraising. Organizing crowdfunding targeted only at association members is straightforward.

Public crowdfunding brings its own limitations and requirements to a project. Public funding may be collected for projects that provide consideration (rewards). Campaigns without consideration are classified as fundraising, in which case a fundraising notification (small-scale fundraising) or a permit application must be submitted to the authorities. You can find more information on the topic on the authorities’ websites.

Example of a private funding campaign:

The goal is to acquire an English wheel for the lab. An English wheel is a type of metalworking machine used to shape sheet metal between two bearing-mounted rollers with different radii of curvature. I will manufacture the device myself, and the required materials, including transportation costs, will cost approximately 570 euros. The crowdfunding campaign is aimed at members, and five members have already committed to contributing 30 € each. I am seeking additional funders through the association’s communication channels, and I will collect the contact details of committed funders using the Google Forms online service (first name, last name, email address, and the maximum amount the person is willing to contribute). Based on my estimate, manufacturing the device will take two months from the time the materials are acquired.

====== Expense Reimbursements ======

Purchases under €100 related to the general maintenance of the lab (e.g. soft drinks, trash bags, toilet paper, etc.) can be made directly and reimbursed by the association against a receipt by submitting an expense reimbursement application to the treasurer via email. More detailed instructions for submitting an expense reimbursement application can be found in section Expense Reimbursement Applications. If you are making purchases for the first time, it is recommended to discuss the purchase in advance with several members, for example via the community’s instant messaging channels, to ensure there is clear community support for the purchase.

Purchases over €100 are handled at the community meeting.
Purchase proposals can be brought to the community meeting for consideration via the agenda located in Nextcloud at [+ ]. State what was purchased, in what quantity, and how much it cost.

A good example of an expense reimbursement brought to a community meeting:

   Maija / €141.86 / 30 cm x 100 m and 10 cm x 100 m transfer tape for the tape cutter. The money will be recovered through material fees from the tape, so this is a consumable.

If the community meeting proposes that an expense be reimbursed, an expense reimbursement application is then submitted to the treasurer by email in accordance with the instructions in section Expense Reimbursement Applications.

Please note that a proposal made at the community meeting does not bind the association’s board. As responsible parties, the treasurer or the association’s board decide on the approval of expense reimbursements.

Vendor direct invoicing must always be approved by the community meeting, the association’s board, and the treasurer.

===== Expense Reimbursement Applications =====

Members of the association may apply for expense reimbursements for purchases via email. All purchases must have a receipt.

Subject: Expense Reimbursement Application

The email must include the following information:

  * Recipient’s name
  * Recipient’s bank account number
  * short description
  * Total amount
  * Itemization of purchases (e.g. receipt-specific description and amount)
  * Explanation of purchase approval (e.g. reference to the community meeting)
  * Receipts for purchases must always be attached in a clearly legible format, preferably as PDFs.

Send the expense reimbursement application to [[rahastonhoitaja@tampere.hacklab.fi
]].

===== Material Replacement =====

Although materials are generally free to use, it is expected that their use will be compensated by bringing replacement materials—preferably similar ones—to the workshop, especially in cases of heavy usage. Example: If you use, for instance, 15 pcs of M3 screws, buy 20 pcs from a hardware store and put them back as replacements. Very small quantities do not matter. Use common sense: If there is a full box of M3 screws but M5 screws are out of stock, purchase M5 screws instead. If you visit a hardware store or order supplies from abroad or from a wholesaler, you can ask other lab members what materials are needed.

====== Keeping Hacklab in working order ======

Since Hacklab does not have staff to maintain it, it is the responsibility of the members. Hacklab maintenance consists, for example, of cleaning up your own tracks, emptying of bins, repairing machines, etc.

Please note, however, that the cleaning of toilets is currently provided by a paid cleaner.

====== Weekly maintenance tasks ======

 The tables presenting weekly maintenance tasks (picture 1) and their locations (picture 2) are no longer in use. The boards previously provided a clear view of the distribution of maintenance tasks and the needs of the trash and maintenance of different facilities.

Although the boards have been removed, their content is still useful in guiding and organising maintenance of members. Members are still encouraged to perform maintenance tasks such as emptying of rubbish, maintenance of equipment, and maintenance of cleanliness on their own.

If necessary, the distribution and locations of maintenance tasks can be discussed in the community’s communication channels, and any new instructions may be updated to visible Lab facilities or electronic systems.

====== Improvement of the Lab ======

The hacklab uses the 'measure and make' principle (as well as 'Do-ocracy'). If you want to improve the Lab in some way, just do that.

If you have suspicion that somebody is not happy with the idea that you have, ask from other members what they think of your idea of improvement. If idea does not please others, it is better to be left unimplemented. Larger and money involving changes must be always be approved by administration or in community meetings.

General rule: use common sense.

======= Waste =======

At Hacklab, waste is sorted, in accordance with common good practices, into wood, sawdust, metal, bio-, and mixed waste, as well as hazardous waste. Additional instructions for sorting waste https://pjhoy.fi/lajitteluhaku/.
Hacklab does not have a designated person to empty the waste containers, so each member should be involved in their emptying, when necessary. Mixed and biowaste have collection points in the property yard. Other wastes can be transported by lab trailer, for example, to a nearby Nekala waste station https://pjhoy.fi/jäteasema/tampereen-jateasemat/.

  * **Mixed waste (sekajäte):** The lab has a few mixed waste bins with a waste bag. When the bag is full, replace it with a new waste bag and take the full bag to the waste compactor. It is located outside at the parking area near the smoke stack.
  * **Wood waste (puujäte):**
    * __Wood suitable for firewood:__: Cut into 35 cm pieces, and place in the boxes reserved for them.
    * __Pieces of board, blocks smaller than firewood, etc .__: Please discard your wood waste in the **yard waste compactor**.
    * __Chips, shavings, sticks:__ Into the mixed waste Sekajäte-bins. Do not put these in Puujäte-bins because they form an awful dust cloud when emptied in to waste compactor. Burn in Tammervoima with a happy flame.
    * __Pressure impregnated wood: __: This should not be worked indoors, chips and debris are hazardous waste. Deliver to Nekala waste station.
  * **Metal:** Into a collection box on the loading dock.
  * **Bio waste (biojäte):** To a biowaste bin in the parking area, next to the waste compactor. Take away the smelly food scraps etc. immediately. Please. Please. Please.
  * **Electronic waste (SER):** A grey bagless bin is located on the electronics side.
  * **Hazardous waste (or problematic waste):** Batteries, accumulators, paints, varnishes, solvents, oils, etc. No collection at the lab - take the hazardous waste to a collection point, for example to the Nekala waste station.
  * **Drink bottles and cans** A collection point can be found in the kitchen. Drink cans and bottles include a deposit so don't crush them..
  * **Large objects:** Take them away yourself.

Location of waste containers of property:

======= Degradations =======

Sometimes something breaks down or you notice something/objects broken down. If the disintegrated matter was valuable (rated tens of euros), notify the board of the matter and agree on compensation.

The drill bites are constantly broken. If you're a tough break, buy a new set for the lab from a hardware store, we're going to be fine.

The blade of the band saw sometimes also break. You don't want to get nervous, but you should notify the government or someone who can change it. The important thing is that the machine is not disabled for nothing.

Please fill in the blue quotation/disposal note of the hallway observations (name, date, what) E.g. "John Doe, 27.9.2021, crankcase ceiling light burned".
