RPG table-top
I needed to expand my table area to play RPGs, so decided to make a separate table-top. It goes on top of my coffee table and two stools, which conveniently are about the same height.
I started with a 120x240cm havuvaneri, which can be obtained from the nearby k-rauta (thanks to Arno for helping with the transport). I've made a mistake of buying a lower quality one, so the surface had some defects. Don't make this mistake, especially if you need a good surface - it takes more work and money to fix the defects.
The production steps were are follows (thanks to Otto for lots of help and instruction):
- Cutting off excess length (from 240 down to 180cm)
- Using the CNC machine to make an indentation in the board, matching the coffee table, to make the board more secure
- Rounding the corners
- Adding a frame to make the vaneri stiffer (thanks to Teemu for advice on that)
- Polishing and filling the holes in the surface
- Removing excess filler and polishing once more
- Covering with varnish
Overall I got a functional table-top and haven't lost any fingers, which is a lot the first woodworking project!
